Italian Wine Company switches to PET bottles

SIPA of Veneto, Italy, a global leader of PET Stretch Blow Moulding Machines for the production of PET bottles have collaborated with Italian wine bottler S. Matteo, to be the first Italian producer to use PET wine bottles.

The containers use a special technical feature incorporating the use of a green tint low light barrier, which allows a shelf life of 9 months.

The attractive 1.5L bottle is targeted to the large wine outlets and supermarket trade in Europe and features a distinctive embossing of Grapes and Company logos around the shoulder and base of the bottle.

S. Matteo produces the PET bottles ‘in house’ on a SIPA 6000 bottles/hour linear blow moulder.

The preforms (now considered a commodity in Europe) are competitively sourced from a local supplier.

One of the benefits for S. Matteo is the ability to change bottle shapes and sizes for a relatively low capital investment and to also be able to produce bottles on a ‘just in time’ basis thus saving in warehousing and inventory costs.

SIPA also provide PET packaging solutions for beer, liquor and other beverage sectors that were in the past traditionally devoted to glass packaging and cans.
