Extruders for Polyurethane Insulated Pipe

Krauss Maffei Extrusion Munich a Global leader in extrusion technology report significant interest with their new development for the continuous manufacture of insulated (PU foamed) pipe.

With a total of 7 lines either in production and under construction the technology offers end users/consumers significant energy savings for either heat loss for cold climates or cooling loss in hot climates.

This process consists of two lines, one for the making of the inner and outer pipe pipe which can be PE (HD) or PE (Xb) which is then coiled.

The 2nd line is for the (continuous) making of the PU foamed isolation pipe in conjunction with the product from line one

Potential markets for the product include:

• Air conditioning & refrigeration
• Pipes for geothermal energy
• Swimming pools
• Long distance heating
• Frost resistant pipe laying (i.e. bridges, infrastructure)
• Warm water supply

Current line speeds are limited by the PU line at 5M/minute with the jacketing thickness up to 3.3mm and a current maximum diameter of 183mm.

The technology also allows for twin inner pipe, i.e. dual flow (forward & back) capability.
