Krauss-Maffei Injection

Krauss Maffei technology chosen to produce lightweight components for BMW’s 5 Gran Turismo Series

ConiTech AG, of Hanover, the world’s largest specialist supplier for automotive rubber (non tyre) and plastics technology have utilised  CX Injection Moulding machinery from Krauss Maffei of Munich Germany, to produce lightweight transmission cross beams that are being used in the new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo 550i cars.

The automotive sector is continually seeking new technologies that provide lightweight solutions for their parts. Krauss Maffei worked closely with ConiTech to provide them with a solution, enabling them to produce the world’s first light weight transmission cross beam, that is manufactured from plastic  polyamide

They were able to reduce the weight of the part by 50%  versus the traditional aluminium component by using BASF Ultramid® A3WG10 CR, which is a 50% glass fibre reinforced polyamide.

Krauss Maffei’s CX Injection Moulding Machines are a two-platen technology that is suitable for small to medium sized clamp force ranges. It is distinguished by its high flexibility, cost effectiveness, and high part quality. The machines are available in clamp forces from 25 to 650 metric tons. It is used extensively within the automotive sector as it is versatile and can meet the diverse requirements of automotive high precision components
